“What did you do at school today”
September 26, 2014 by mrskbell
I read this great article entitled, “25 Ways to Ask Your Kids ‘So How Was School Today?’ Without Asking Them ‘So How Was School Today?” As a Mom to a 4ker myself, I hear responses such as, “I played” and “I don’t remember”. I promise you, they are learning so much throughout the day! When they get home, it’s hard for them to remember all the fun activities we did throughout their day!
Here are some specific questions you can ask regarding our schedule and routine:
What did you do on the smartboard?
What did you eat for snack?
Who did you play with at center time?
What did you play with at center time (dramatic play, sensory table, puzzle, blocks, magnet/flannel board, playdough, art center)? What was in that center? (This can change weekly)
What did you do at project time?
When the newsletter comes home on Thursday, this is another opportunity for you to engage conversation with your child. Bring up specific events and ask more questions about it.
Here is the article for more ideas! 25 Ways to ask your kids, “How was school today?”

Friendship Painting
September 12, 2014 by mrskbell
During centers this week we painted with a friend. I was so impressed with how well they worked together and created a picture!
Here are their masterpieces:
“My Uncle likes International (tractors), better than John Deere. So I’m painting an International.””I’m adding a cornstalk”
“We’re painting race cars. They have to jump through the holes!”
“I’m making a chipmunk.” “I’m making water for the chipmunk”
“There is rain and rain puddles. It’s a rain storm!”
“We’re painting butterflies”
“We’re making persons, rainbows, and then butterflies.”
“I’m painting Spankie my cat.” ” I’m painting a road”
“The guy jumps over the rainbow, just like the cow jumps over the moon.”
“We are painting lots of things. Race cars, tractors, and monster trucks!”

Welcome to 4K!
September 3, 2014 by mrskbell
Welcome to 4K! I am so excited to welcome your child to their first school experience. I look forward to partnering with you and preparing your child to become successful students and life long learners…I hope you enjoy reading our updates and taking a peek to see all we are doing! Please continue to visit my blog to find updates, websites, photos and get the latest information on school events, field trips and other activities! So glad you “blogged by”, please be sure to visit again and become one of our classroom followers! You can subscribe on the right tab! Here are some helpful tips on how to make the transition to 4K go smoothly:*Make sure your child gets lots of sleep at night. Get them to bed at a reasonable time. Reducing stress in the morning can help make the whole day turn out better. Be sure to lay out school clothes at night and give your child plenty of time to eat a healthy breakfast. I know I am not at my best without sleep or breakfast!!*For the youngest students, missing their parents can be a real concern. Family photos can be a reminder for the nonreaders that their parents will be waiting for them at the end of the day. Please complete and return the scrapbook page that was in your child’s folder. I will make a class book and your child will have access to it throughout the day if they are missing you.*Keep school positive. Ask your child 3 things they did during school. What was their favorite? Who did they play with? Children this age have a hard time communicating what they did at school. Asking positive questions will help them remember the fun they had that day!*Practice patience. It may take awhile for your child to adjust to now being in school. They are learning a lot during the day and their brain is filling up with new knowledge! It might take a good month to get in their groove of the school year. Try not to schedule too much.If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, please please please contact me. We are a team and I am looking forward to getting to know your family this year!Category Uncategorized | Tags: | No Comments
